Climbing the Pedraforca summit
Pedraforca may be one of the most beautiful mountains in Catalonia. It is perfectly doable on a day trip from the city very close to Barcelona.
The name "Pedraforca" means pitchfork as it has two peaks more or less of the same high.
The North face is a steep limestone rocky wall of about 600 mts. high climbed for the first time in 1928 by Lluis Estasen. Nowadays, many people ascent it on the regular route, especially in summer, because it is more secure. The regular route reaches the north peak (Pollegó Superior), slightly higher than the other summit, with 2492 mts. It is a beautiful route. You walk through a forest, hike up a col (Coll del Verdet), climb a little rocky section (not difficult, and with a cable to help to pull from), and follow the ridge overhanging the north face (very aerial, but manageable). The descent follows the stonefield, which lies between the two peaks.
The South Peak (Pollegó Inferior) is about 2400 m, and it can also be climbed easily.
